A new film portraying the life story of one of Philadelphia's most prominent musical leaders has its U.S. premiere this week. As WRTI's Jim Cotter reports, the film documents the accomplishments of an internationally renowned conductor, composer and...knight.
It's been an eventful last few years for the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia's music director, Dirk Brosse. In July 2013, he received his native Belgium's highest order of merit: the Knight in the Order of the Crown, bestowing on him the noble title "Sir." Maestro Brosse was knighted by King Albert in the final days of his reign. Later that month, he received a Grammy nomination for his score to the HBO series Parade.
These events, says Chamber Orchestra President, Peter Gisterlink, were just some of the reasons that made Sir or Maestro or just plain Dirk Brosse such a rich subject.
The film Brossé: A Destiny in Music has it's U.S. premiere at the Perelman Theater at the Kimmel Center on Thursday, May 8 at 7 pm. Ticket information.
