Jaleel Shaw Recorded Live at Solar Myth

Ways To Subscribe

Earlier this year, alto and soprano saxophonist Jaleel Shaw returned to Philadelphia, his hometown, for a concert at Solar Myth. He brought a sharp quartet with Matt Brewer on bass, Johnathan Blake on drums, and an up-and-comer he’s been mentoring, Cameron Campbell, on piano. WRTI’s Josh Jackson was at the show, and came away raving about the emotional power of “Tamir,” which Shaw wrote in tribute to Tamir Rice, a 12-year-old boy killed by a police officer in Cleveland in 2014. The Late Set is now proud to bring you that performance, in an exclusive recording made by Beau Gordon at Ars Nova Workshop, mixed by Robert Webb at WRTI, and authorized by Shaw. Consider it a bonus musical offering and a preview of coming attractions: our extensive interview with Jaleel Shaw will be in your feed very soon.
