The Crossing on WRTI 90.1: Songs In Memory of the Esteemed Choral Conductor, Joseph Flummerfelt

Rider University
Joseph Flummerfelt

Join us on Saturday, June 15th from 4 to 6 PM to hear the GRAMMY-winning choir, The Crossing, sing "For Joe," a recollection honoring the life of Joseph Flummerfelt, the distinguished American choral conductor who passed away on March 1st at age 82.

“March 1st was a big day for choral musicians. A very sad day," explains Donald Nally, The Crossing’s conductor. "Joseph Flummerfelt was the most influential and esteemed choral conductor of his time. He was my friend."

"In fact," says Nally, I was so grateful for what Joe taught me in the '80s that, in 2011, we published a book together in which I set out to capture just what it was that made his way of thinking about music, conducting, gesture and breath so important, and what made the sound he inspired so unique.” Read more about Joe here.

It's his parents' fault. For Joe's sixth birthday, they gave him a transistor radio. All of a sudden, their dreams of having a doctor or lawyer (or even a fry cook) in the family went down the tubes.
