It’s hard to believe it’s been seven years since Austrian conductor Manfred Honeck made his Philadelphia Orchestra debut. And WRTI was there in Verizon Hall when he directed the Philadelphians in a program of Johann Strauss II, Mozart, and a riveting performance of Dvorak’s New World Symphony! Listen to this stellar concert broadcast on Sunday, November 1st at 1 PM on WRTI 90.1 and Monday, November 2nd on WRTI HD-2.
With The Philadelphia Orchestra giving a performance of Dvorak’s String Serenade on the digital stage on Thursday, November 5th, we thought it would be nice to go back in time to that evening in November, 2013 in Verizon Hall, to relive some special memories.
Violinist Christian Tetzlaff made one of his frequent visits to Philadelphia for a performance that evening of Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 5, and the concert featured two orchestral favorites: the Overture to Johann Strauss II’s operetta Die Fledermaus, and Antonin Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9, "From the New World."
These were memorable performances, and it’s time to hear them again!
J. Strauss II: Die Fledermaus Overture
Mozart: Violin Concerto No. 5 (Christian Tetzlaff, violin)
Dvorak: Symphony No. 9, "From the New World"
