The Philadelphia Orchestra in Concert on WRTI: Bach's St. Matthew Passion for Good Friday at Noon

Michael D. Beckwith/Unsplash

Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts one of the supreme monuments in Western music, and the work that initiated the great rediscovery of Bach’s music when the 20-year-old Felix Mendelssohn conducted it in Berlin in 1829 – the St. Matthew Passion.

An impressive roster of soloists, along with the Westminster Symphonic Choir, and the American Boychoir joins The Philadelphia Orchestra in this vast two-part masterpiece, which recounts the last days of Christ, leading to his Crucifixion, performed for Easter in 2013 at Verizon Hall. This was the Orchestra's first performance of the famous oratorio in nearly 30 years.

During intermission, we'll go backstage with Westminster Symphonic Choir Director, Joe Miller. Gregg Whiteside is host and producer.

That's Good Friday, April 10th at 12 noon, right after the news, on WRTI 90.1, and streaming online. You can also hear the concert Thursday evening, April 9th at 7 PM on our HD-2 channel and classical stream.  Don't miss this memorable re-broadcast!
