Happy New Year and Happy Birthday (to us)

Welcome to 2013.  Besides being the year of the snake and the UN's International Year of Water Cooperation (who knew!), it bears mentioning that WRTI turns 60!  On July 9, 1953, WRTI became a licensed FM radio station operating at 10 watts from Temple University's main campus in Philadelphia.  Thanks to you, over the years we've grown into the largest classical music and jazz media outlet in the tri-state area.

We have an exciting year planned with events, new programming, special thank-you gifts, and much more that we'll share with you as the year unfolds.  Many of you may have already heard our new series within Creatively Speaking titled Where Music Lives. The series celebrates our broad reach in the tri-state region by sharing the voices of artists, community leaders, teachers, and lovers of music in a 60-part series that reaches across the entire WRTI broadcast area.  Plus, look for enhanced materials online that further enrich these stories.

Next month WRTI will premiere a new performance series titled "The Diamond Sessions" to mark our diamond anniversary.  Look for jazz and classical performances recorded live in the WRTI performance studio that will give you a front-row seat to some absolutely brilliant music and performers.

In case you've missed it, here's our 60th anniversary commemorative artwork winning design, courtesy of Dori Spector from Newtown Square, PA.

Next week, look for thank-you gifts featuring Dori's winning design during our Winter Member Drive which starts on January 22nd.

Finally, let me offer a heartfelt thank you to every one of you reading this message.  You and other listeners have given me a reason to love this business for over 40 years.  I look forward to continuing to meet as many of you as I can, and sharing with you the great stories and plans ahead as WRTI looks to the next 60 years of engaging our community with this music.
