The Philadelphia Orchestra's Principal Clarinet Ricardo Morales shows off his virtuosic skills in two very different and very challenging works in this Philadelphia Orchestra In Concert re-broadcast, Sunday, August 16, 1 to 3 pm.
Debussy’s Rhapsody No. 1 for Clarinet and Orchestra and Rossini’s Introduction, Theme, and Variations for Clarinet and Orchestra, are two of three 40/40 works on today’s program. And these two performances are the first, ever, by The Philadelphia Orchestra.
Sunday's concert also brings us Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio espagnol (which hasn't been performed by the Orchestra on subscription since 1931) and – after intermission –Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4.
Our guest conductor for the program is the chief conductor of the BBC Philharmonic, Juanjo Mena, one of Spain’s most distinguished conductors. He made his Philadelphia Orchestra debut in 2009 at the Mann Center, and his subscription debut the following year.
