The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra in Concert, Sunday at 3

Violinist Michael Ludwig

On Sunday, August 30th at 3 pm on WRTI hear the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra as it celebrates the conclusion of its 75th season. It’s a challenging concert that includes the premiere of a new work, along with performances of Tchaikovsky and Mahler.

Music Director Louis Scaglione conducts, and the opening work on the program is Sheridan Seyfried’s brilliant Across the Sky, a PYO commission. The composer, a few years back, was a member of the orchestra.

The ever-popular Violin Concerto in D by Tchaikovsky, and the Symphony No. 5 in C-sharp minor by Gustav Mahler are also on the program. In the Tchaikovsky, violinist Michael Ludwig, who has a long history with PYO, will be the soloist. We’ll also learn about some of the highlights of the coming 76th year of PYO from Maestro Scaglione. Jack Moore is your host, Sunday at 3 pm.
