Classical music on WRTI’s Memorial Day Weekend looks back and moves forward! Of course we'll have American and other classical favorites all weekend long as we remember the meaning of Memorial Day. But we’ll also hear new works of remembrance.
Listen for works by Philadelphia-connected composers. There's the haunting Sarabanda in memoriam by Aaron Jay Kernis, the impressionistic Addio by Juliette Stango, and a moving choral work by the late Margaret Garwood, Tombsongs.
The Native American composer Jerod Impichchaachaaha Tate wrote the profound flute concerto Tracing Mississippi, a memorial to his Chickasaw ancestors on the Trail of Tears. Plus we'll hear one of the most beautiful of William Bolcom's rags, Graceful Ghost.
So whether it's remembering, relaxing, or looking forward, listen along with us all Memorial Day Weekend!
