LISTEN: The Daedalus Quartet Plays Beethoven, LIVE from WRTI 90.1's Performance Studio

WRTI 90.1 was proud to present the world-renowned Daedalus QuartetLIVE in our performance studio, on Friday, February 2, at 12 noon, for a program of Beethoven’s String Quartets—they're among the most profound works of chamber music ever written. Watch on the WRTI Facebook page!

Quartet-in-residence at the University of Pennsylvania, the Daedalus’ playing has been described as “luminous, insightful and vibrant” (New York Times).

They played for us and spoke with WRTI Classical Host Debra Lew Harder about their groundbreaking 2017-2018 season, performing Beethoven's complete cycle of string quartets, in thought-provoking and unusual contexts that reach beyond music to the sciences and other arts.

Their Beethoven cycle, presented by the Annenberg Center Live at the University of Pennsylvania, continues on February 4th with a staged reading of Michael Hollinger’s award-winning play Opus, and with their performance of Beethoven’s Opus 131, the string quartet on which the play’s plot turns. Q&A with play's director and playwright here.

Join us to hear the Daedalus perform:

  • Beethoven’s String Quartet Opus 18, No. 3, Movement 1
  • Beethoven's String Quartet Opus 131, Movements 1 and 2

Listen on WRTI 90.1, streaming at WRTI.org, and on the WRTI Mobile App.

Debra's last day on the air at WRTI was September 21st, 2021. She's now the radio host for The Metropolitan Opera. Read more here.
