Live from the WRTI Performance Studio: 2018 PYPA Winner Sarah Tuan Plays Music by Robert Schumann

At 17 years old, pianist Sarah Tuan has already won mulitiple competitions, including first prize at the 2018 Philadelphia Young Pianists Academy. In advance of her upcoming concert with PYPA, she visits the WRTI Performance Studio on July 31st at 12:10 PM to play from Schumann's Faschingsschwank aus Wien and chat with WRTI's Susan Lewis. 

Sarah grew up in San José, making her debut at age 10. She has since played at venues in the U.S., Germany, Italy and Denmark. She's been featured on NPR's From the Top and in WRTI's Performance Studio during last year's PYPA competition.

She performs at Philadelphia Young Pianist Academy on August 5th, at the Academy of Vocal Arts at 7:30pm.

Recently, Sarah was one of 23 young pianists chosen from 230 young pianists around the world to the Cliburn International Junior Piano Competition.  Her other accolades include first prizes in the Virginia Waring International Piano Competition; San Jose International Piano Competition, and scholarships to the International Chopin Piano Festival in Poland where she performed at the "World Piano Talents" concert.

Susan writes and produces stories about music and the arts. She’s host and producer of WRTI’s TIME IN online interview series, and contributes weekly intermission interviews for The Philadelphia Orchestra in Concert series. She’s also been a regular host of WRTI’s Live from the Performance Studio sessions.
