Join us this Sunday, Sept. 29 at 4 p.m. for the third episode of Sunday Classical with Astral. This special program is made in collaboration with our longtime partners at Astral — a Philadelphia-based musician mentoring program — offering curated playlists and insights from artists that speak to their musical inspirations and aspirations.
This week, host John Scherch is joined by the electro-acoustic string duo ARKAI. Violinist Jonathan Miron and cellist Philip Sheegog are Juilliard-trained musicians who, these days, use their electric instruments to create soundscapes that resemble a rock band backed by a full orchestra. The duo has collaborated with Grammy-award winning producers, Hollywood trailer houses, Cirque du Soleil acrobats, and full-scale symphony orchestras. ARKAI’s debut album Crossroads was released in August. (Don’t miss their album release party on Oct. 16 at World Cafe Live!)
The duo’s program includes performances they grew up listening to, artists and composers that inspire their own playing, and of course their own music, including a piece French President Emmanuel Macron gave a shout-out to during the Paris Olympics. Join John and ARKAI this Sunday at 4 p.m. on WRTI, 90.1 and streaming at wrti.org and on the WRTI mobile app!
