Tune in on Saturday July 25 at 1 p.m. to hear Mozart’s timeless comedic opera, The Marriage of Figaro. Mozart’s masterpiece is considered to be one of the greatest operas of all time, and it remains one of the most frequently performed. WRTI will carry this 2026 broadcast of The Marriage of Figaro by the Glyndebourne Festival Opera as a part of the WFMT Opera Series.
The Marriage of Figaro is based on Beaumarchais’s play of the same name, which itself is a sequel to The Barber of Seville. In The Marriage of Figaro — set several years after The Barber — the Count Almaviva is attempting to engage in an affair with Susanna, the betrothed of his head servant, Figaro. Several of the other characters, including Susanna, hatch a variety of plans to foil the lecherous advances of the Count.
This production features bass-baritone Tommaso Barea as Figaro, soprano Johanna Wallroth as his betrothed, Susanna, and baritone Huw Mongtague Rendall as the Count. Baritone Alessandro Corbelli is Bartolo, mezzo-soprano Madeleine Shaw is Marcellina, and mezzo-soprano Adèle Charvet is Cherubino. Maestro Riccardo Minasi conducts the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.
