Kicking off with the American premiere of Missy Mazzoli's 'The Listeners,' Opera Philadelphia's 2024-25 season will also feature fresh interpretations of operas by Mozart and Joseph Bologne.

For Mike Bolton, an aria from 'The Magic Flute' was a pivotal entry point into the world of opera. He sees the same possibility in Julie Taymor’s spectacular production at The Met Opera, which airs Saturday, June 3 at 1 p.m. on WRTI.

In a program spanning Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll, Schoenberg’s Transfigured Night, and selections from Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni, the common denominator is love.

Mozart played both violin and viola, and wrote his Sinfonia Concertante for those two instruments in 1779 after a trip to Paris and Mannheim, where the form was popular.
