WRTI believes that the joy of experiencing classical music should be available to everyone, including children in our region. The Irving and Jennie Pearl Shoer Family Endowment and The Brown Family Educational Endowment in Memory of Franklin C. Brown support WRTI's efforts to develop partnerships with local music organizations and schools to increase opportunities for young students to participate in and attend classical music performances.
These gifts have profoundly enhanced the station's ability to provide music education opportunities for children in the Greater Philadelphia region and have supported efforts to build partnerships with local music organizations and schools to reach students who might otherwise not have had the chance to experience these performances.
In April, WRTI partnered with the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society to bring members of the East Coast Chamber Orchestra (ECCO) to Philadelphia’s Joseph E. Coleman Northeast Library to perform a family concert. The concert was one of ten educational events that WRTI co-sponsored with the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society this year.
Students from Eugenio Maria de Hostos, where WRTI sponsors string instruction in partnership with Musicopia, were eager to attend the concert, and WRTI provided transportation assistance to cover the cost of busing.
Coming up, WRTI is proud to again support 10 performances for children with the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society during the 2026-2027 academic year and to continue supporting the Eugenio Maria de Hostos string program through its partnership with Musicopia. This season marks the fifth year of the education partnership with the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society and the fourth year with Musicopia, a strong testament to the organizations’ shared and ongoing commitment to music education in Philadelphia.
