Kassa Overall performing at Solar Myth on Sept. 3, 2025.

Kassa Overall brought what seemed like a truckful of vinyl to his recent tour date at Solar Myth: copies of CREAM, which was set to drop on Warp Records a few days after the gig. The album is his latest exploration of the bonds between jazz and hip-hop, featuring his hard-boppish takes on classic rap tracks by Digable Planets, Wu-Tang Clan, The Notorious B.I.G. and more. As Overall explained on a recent episode of The Late Set, he’s interested not only in bridging the gap between these genres, but exploring the subterranean root system that they share.

WRTI is now proud to bring you the world-exclusive broadcast of Kassa Overall at Solar Myth, featuring Emilio Modeste on saxophones, Matt Wong on piano, and Rashaan Carter on bass. We’ll feature highlights from the show in Sunday Rotation, hosted by Julian Booker, on Nov. 9 at 8 p.m.

Overall’s show, on Sept. 3, took the form of a full run-through of the album, with a crackling energy that had the crowd hollering after every tune. Following the show, Overall took his station at the merch table, where a queue formed, running all the way back to the bar. He unloaded more than a few copies of CREAM that night — a testament to the band’s performance, and the vitality of the music. We’re excited to share it with you now.
