Celebrating a Musician's Musician on WRTI

Wolfgang Sawallisch (1923-2013)

WRTI will broadcast a special 2005 archival Philadelphia Orchestra concert, led by Maestro Wolfgang Sawallisch (who died last February, 2013) on Sunday, January 19th at 1 pm. The program includes Hindemith’s Concert Music for Strings and Brass, Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D Major, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1  in C Major.  As WRTI’s Susan Lewis reports, the Orchestra’s beloved former music director forged strong bonds with the musicians he led.
