The Philadelphia Orchestra's assistant conductor Kensho Watanabe conducted Leonard Bernstein's Candide overture in an afternoon "Side-by-Side" concert on June 4th consisting of some 19 members of the Philadelphia Orchestra, a handful from the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and students from the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music Symphony Orchestra.
The 90 young members of the orchestra also included 25 members of the Outstanding Musicians of the Israel Defense Forces program.
Kensho conducted the Candide overture while Tel Aviv University's resident conductor Eyal Ein-Habar conducted the Brahms Symphony No. 3.
The concert, held at Tel Aviv University, was free, but tickets were required. In three hours, 1,400 tickets were claimed.
