March 30, 2020. The distinctive feature of T-Man, drummer Jason Tiemann’s debut album as a leader, is that the instrumentation is that of a Hammond organ trio. That was not the original plan, but these are jazz musicians; they improvise.

December 2, 2019. Art Blakey pased away nearly 30 years, but his old Jazz Messengers are still busy, perhaps none more so than drummer and Pleasantville, NJ native Ralph Peterson. Peterson, much like his legendary mentor, has shown a knack for getting the most out of young talent, a truth revealed on last year’s I Remember Bu and, now once again, on the latest from Peterson and his Gen-Next Big Band, Listen Up!

October 21, 2019. Drummer Mike Clark made a name for himself as a “drummer’s drummer” when he appeared on Herbie Hancock’s album Thrust back in 1974. Since then, he went on to make music with some of the biggest names in the jazz world. On Indigo Blue: Live at the Iridium, Clark brings together jazz royalty to effortlessly deliver some high-caliber jazz.

July 15, 2019. Drummer Vince Ector is a grown-up. He lives in New York City, the epicenter of unadulterated ambition. He teaches at Princeton, not really the type of place that evokes the inner child in us all. He plays with the Mingus Big Band and Orrin Evans’s Captain Black Big Band, serious ensembles for the mature and sophisticated plier of one’s craft.

June 10, 2019. Drummer Akira Tana and his quartet, Otonowa (Sound Circle), are doing for Japanese standards what jazz musicians have been doing for American standards for years: respecting their past and infusing them with cool. And that’s exactly what they’ve done with Ai San San (Love’s Radiance), their third album dedicated to aiding those devastated by 2011’s earthquake and tsunami in the Tohoku region of northeastern Japan.

The group Ode to Omni was formed in Philadelphia by drummer (and leader) Marcus Myers with the mission of making music that benefits the listener while trying to push music forward. They joined host J. Michael Harrison in the WRTI Performance Studio on February 4th for a live session that you can watch on Facebook.

Drummer Webb Thomas’ Philadelphia roots extend deep and have helped establish him as one of the most prominent drummers in the area. Webb and his project, Webb T’s Fleet The Superband, will join host J. Michael Harrison in the WRTI Performance Studio on Thursday, December 13th at 9:10 PM for a live concert.
