Live from the WRTI Performance Studio: Astral Artist Katie Hyun Plays Lang and Piazzolla

A winner of Astral's 2016 National Auditions, violinist Katie Hyun has been praised for her "sensitivity and top shelf artistry" by Cleveland.com. In advance of her upcoming Astral recital, she visits WRTI to play music by David Lang and Astor Piazzolla. WRTI's Susan Lewis is host.

Katie's Astral recital, on Saturday, January 25th, 7:30 pm at Church of the Holy Trinity, Rittenhouse Square, features collaborating artists Serafim Smigelskiy, cello, and Charles Weaver, theorbo.

Katie has performed as soloist with NOVUS Trinity Wall Street, the Houston Symphony, Dallas Chamber Orchestra, The Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Columbia Festival Orchestra, as well as the Busan Sinfonietta and Incheon Philharmonic Orchestra in South Korea.

The founder and director of Quodlibet Ensemble, which released its debut recording in 2014, she was also a founding member of the award-winning Amphion String Quartet, which was a member of Lincoln Center's CMS Two.

On the Baroque violin, she frequently appears with Trinity Baroque Orchestra, the Helicon Foundation, and New York Baroque Incorporated. She holds degrees from the Curtis Institute of Music, SUNY Stonybrook, and the Yale School of Music.

Susan writes and produces stories about music and the arts. She’s host and producer of WRTI’s TIME IN online interview series, and contributes weekly intermission interviews for The Philadelphia Orchestra in Concert series. She’s also been a regular host of WRTI’s Live from the Performance Studio sessions.
