Members of the 2019 Boysie Lowery Living Jazz Residency program visited the WRTI Performance Studio last year to play a number of songs. In this video, vibraphonist Grady Tesch, a residency fellow who is also a composer, arranger, and educator, beckons listeners to lean in and enjoy his composition, "Walk To The Guillotine."
Grady's musical palette was expanded during his time in the lauded Wilmington-based program, named after Robert "Boysie" Lowery, a pivotal instructor of trumpeter Clifford Brown.
Both legendary horn men's contributions are heralded annually during the Clifford Brown Jazz Festival, the largest free jazz festival on the East Coast, that features performances from graduates and current attendees of the Boysie Lowery Living Jazz Residency.
Based in New York, Grady performs regularly with his band, Momentum, featuring their 2018 self-titled debut album release showcasing his compositional fire and leadership skills. He's performed internationally at Montreux Jazz Festival, Umbria Jazz Festival, Costa Rica International Jazz Festival and has shared the stage with Grammy-winning trumpet player Shunzo Ono, as well as Ira Coleman, Jerome Jennings, David Berkman, and Huevito Lobaton.
