Celebrating the Legacy of Sawallisch on Tour and at Home

Conductor Wolfgang Sawallisch led The Philadelphians from 1993 to 2003.

WRTI will broadcast a special 2005 archival Philadelphia Orchestra concert, led by Maestro Wolfgang Sawallisch (who died last February, 2013) on Sunday, January 19th at 1 pm. The program includes Hindemith’s Concert Music for Strings and Brass, Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D Major, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1  in C Major.

As WRTI’s Susan Lewis reports, the ensemble’s late music director shared his musical gifts with audiences at home and abroad, leading the orchestra on eight international tours.
