September 17, 2018. Despite the passing of Count Basie in 1984, the Count Basie Orchestra has remained one of the elite performing organizations in jazz. Now under the direction of Scotty Barnhart, the orchestra, partly comprised of musicians hired by Basie himself, has released All About That Basie to celebrate 80 years of swinging.

April 23, 2018. We all know Van Morrison as a crooner, just different from the ones heard regularly on WRTI. On You’re Driving Me Crazy, Van Morrison teams up with Philadelphia native son, organist and trumpeter Joey DeFrancesco. The result: a jazz album that swings hard, and true.

When music’s biggest night blasted off Sunday afternoon in The Theater at Madison Square Garden, home— for some contenders—was just a short train ride away. Here are the Philadelphians who won Grammys, and the Philadelphia-based talents who helped the winners along.
